Richard Liu Qiangdong is a Chinese entrepreneur known for creating JD.com, one of the largest online retailers in the country. The company recently announced that they would be creating a single network for their logistics department, and the entire warehouse locations and the delivery vehicles that they used in the past will automatically become a part of the development.

 

Richard Liu Qiangdong stated that they wanted to increase the effectivity of their delivery services, and he believes that creating a single network for their logistics department will address some of the issues faced when shipping their products. Under the new logistics department of JD.com, even the farthest territories of China can be reached, covering 99% of the country’s territory. The founder of JD.com also claimed that the majority of the population would benefit from the company’s decision to create its own logistics network, and the items purchased at their website can be delivered instantly.

 

Richard Liu has a long history of being in the retail industry. While he was still in college, he decided to open up a restaurant, but it did end up successfully. After graduating from the university, he established a parts-manufacturing business for computer systems. He studied about computers when he was still in the university, but it was his initiative as his degree is all about Sociology.

 

Richard Liu Quiangdong dedicated some of his free time to learn how to program, create a website, and other skills related to computer systems. It became beneficial when he opened his computer parts-manufacturing business, as he showed his clients that he is knowledgeable about computers. Many investors have seen the potential of his business to become the next big thing, and funding for his business came in. Richard Liu Qiangdong was able to open new branches in key Chinese cities, supplying companies with computer parts.

 

However, his business had to close down during the SARS virus outbreak. To continue earning money from his computer parts business, he established an online shopping website called JD.com and started selling his products online.
