Richard Liu is one of the most successful Chinese online retailers today. His company, JD.com, managed to sell $67 billion worth of items last years, and his net worth reached $12 billion. Richard Liu Qiangdong’s family lives in a rural village in Jiangsu Province, China. As a child, he wanted to succeed and become wealthy. After he graduated, he joined Japan Life, and with a little knowledge about coding, he was appointed to become the head of the computer department. He left the company after staying with them from a while, and he decided to run his own business. it was a computer parts retail business, founded in 1998. The company was a success, but he had to close it down in 2003 because of the SARS outbreak.

Richard migrated his business online, and the transfer was completed in 2004. He contacted his previous clients and encouraged them to order parts online. From selling computer parts, he decided to expand his focus and sold different items to the public. Later on, he was able to purchase a domain for his business, worth $5 million, but he looked into it as an investment.

After taking ownership of the JD.com domain, Richard Liu focused on how to become an efficient company by investing heavily on logistics. He purchased warehouses, trucks, vans, and other modes of transport that will enable them to deliver the products to their customers at the shortest time possible. Today, JD.com can deliver to more than 90% of the Chinese territory, serving hundreds of millions of people.

Today, JD.com stands at about $60 billion whereas his personal net worth is about 12.7 billion. In 2017, Liu has been featured as an Honoree in Variety 500 website entitled, “JD.com Richard Liu; Founder / Chairman / CEO”, as a result of his persistence, innovation, and hard work.
