The future of fashion was on display at New York Fashion Week. This event is an opportunity for new names in the industry to get attention. The Academy of Art University has been a part of New York Fashion Weeks for 21 years. Last year, ten of their bachelor and master of fine arts graduates took part. They showed the crowds their five womenswear and menswear collection.

The graduates who took part came from a diverse background. One was from China while another grew up on the shores of Maine. Their fashion ideas and craftsmanship techniques were regarded as impressive by the audience. Some of the people in attendance included Ms. J Alexander of “America’s Next Top Model” and CFDA’s Sara Kozlowski who is its director of education and professional development.

The Academy of Art University’s Hailun Zhou took part. She is from Qing Dao, China. Her collection was inspired by pictures she had taken for a creative concept class. Another participant was Eden Slezin who said he was influenced by vintage denim and individuality. The collection that Dina Marie Lam came up with was inspired by the emotions she felt when her aunt died.

The Academy of Art University has a sprawling campus in San Francisco. It was established in 1929 by Richard S. Stephens. Today it is run by his granddaughter Elisa Stephens. They have over 11,000 students with 7,000 in their undergraduate programs and 4,000 doing postgraduate studies. Students can take classes on the campus and some can be taken online.

They have 25 college degree programs at the Academy of Art University. They are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the National Architectural Accrediting Board, and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation.

Among their alumni is Lee Cheol-ha who is now a film director. Bilal Lashari is a film director and cinematographer in Pakistan. The actress Heidi Montag attended the Academy of Art University as did singer and actress Raven-Symone. The Indonesian Actress and Miss International 2019 Jolene Marie Cholock-Rotinsulu was also a student at this school.
